There was so much history, religious meaning, and geometry embedded in this southern Indian practice! It’s made of rice flour, which gets eaten up by animals during the course of the day and night. No worries; the women just make a new one the next day! (BOB.)
So expressive even from the back. It is truly remarkable how these things are created. I can't imagine the time it would take me to do one, and to do it every day? So cool in so many ways.
