Pelicans - their beak can hold more than their belly can!
Another shot from one of the water hazards at the golf course. The pelicans have taken up residence since about November, and at last I captured some of them on a sunny day!
Ahhhh! Every time my grandmother saw a pelican she would say "Oh what a bird is the pelican. Its beak can hold more than it's belly can!" I've never heard anyone else say this until now! Brought back great memories. I say it to my kids now and they think I'm nuts.
A wonderful bird is the pelican,
His bill will hold more than his belican,
He can take in his beak
Enough food for a week
But I'm damned if I see how the helican!

I just love these birds and it is great to see them on the water in a crowd like this. I reckon you might get lots of photo opportunities out of them. Will they let you get up close? Lovely shot.

@lucypics@sansjuan@bristolrose@carolyns@anazad511@taffy@wind_of_the_sothern_sea Thanks everyone. @happysnap There are so many of them at our golf course, but they don't let me get very close, and it's sometimes difficult to get to the right place to photograph them because of other golfers, so I have to be careful - don't want to get thrown off the course! This was the best of many photographs I took the other day - lying on my belly on the water's edge, as I can't really have the tripod either. Still, I may have other opportunities before they move on!
