Le Pouce by César

In 1965, César made a 40cm bronze statue of his own thumb, and subsequently made many more statues of differing sizes. This is the biggest one, situated in the La Défense business district of Paris, standing 12 metres high and weighing 18 tons. In the background you can see the CNIT building, Areva's offices and also Total's offices, where my husband currently works, and where I too used to work. :-)
Wow, Love your pov!...what a strange sight to see! (i reckon he had a fungal nail infection going on too!)

An amazing sculpture - nice pov.

@annbo Your comment made me smile! Definite touch of something fungal going on there!

Well, this is definitely art that's outside of the norm, but then I guess that's what gets one noticed. I like the comp of this picture; architecture on one side, nature on the other, art in the middle. Looks great in B&W.

Great looking sculpture, very unusual!

It's not everywhere that can boast a sculpture of a thumb!

Ha! Love the contrast of the modern architecture and the organic shapes and texture of the sculpture. Nice.

That detail is quite amazing. What an interesting sculpture and your comp works so well to show it off.

That's an amazing sculpture...........you say you used to work there, like you are very pleased to have left :)

Issi, quick question, how safe is it to wonder around Paris with an SLR....sort of equivalent to London and New York?

I like your comp, and the thumb is so very detailed--but there is something about it (the thumb) that repels me a bit.

@pixiemac Absolutely Sarah. Paris is no more no less 'dangerous' than any big city, IMHO. Biggest danger in Paris, is probably pickpocketing whilst being distracted. If you're coming over, be sure to let me know!!!! Regards the offices, I actually loved working there ... would go back in a heartbeat, but it's not that simple, unfortunately. However, I do a good job at filling my time in other ways! ;-)))

@tristansmum Yes, it is a little repulsive - I totally know what you're saying Stephanie!

@jamibann Issi, we are going to be arriving on Friday 5th June, leaving on Sunday 7th. Hubby has won a weekend including tickets for the women's final on the Saturday. We are being rather spoilt!! We have requested a late train home on the Sunday, so if you are free on the 7th June it would be fab to meet up with you :)

@pixiemac If only! Sod's law ... I will be on the other side on the channel on 7th June. What a shame. I'm off to Scotland on Monday, then my dad's coming over to Paris with me and on 4th June we are heading over to England together to visit both my brothers; one in Kent, the other in Cambridge. I don't get back to Paris until 10th June. However, how lucky are you to get tickets for the women's final?! Have a great time. :-)

@jamibann yep, sod's law! You have a lovely time our side and we'll have a fab time your side of the channel !
May 23rd, 2015
@pixiemac Absolutely! :-)
