We are the trailing spice! A fun capture of our Thursday tennis group. Poppy (in white and pink) is leaving soon for Hong Kong. We're going to be very sad to see her go.We are all in Paris because our spouses are currently working here. Stuart is the only male - not an easy situation for him, often. Next to Stuart is Pauline, then Heidi (sitting), Poppy, Alison (in front), Shirley (just returned from Australia), Lisa, Mhairie and YT. Although we are currently 'trailing spice' we have had jobs of our own ... we have two architects, a doctor, a physiotherapist, a teacher, a meat inspector, an HR professional, a hairdresser and a chef! They're a great bunch.
What a fun looking group - tennis is a great way to meet new friends quickly when you move about. We have one friend in town who is 82 and he still plays weekly. The girl I walk with in the mornings (6:15) plays at least 3 times a week and has for nearly 30 years. This definitely looks like an enthusiastic group.
I love the sheer joy in the shot -- how I'd imagine feeling if I or Jim were posted to Paris for a bit! But I've wondered how it must be to be the 'trailing spice' if it is a two-career family.
@milaniet Yes, tennis does seem to be the kind of sport that you can play into old-age - especially doubles tennis. Personally, I prefer singles, but doubles is much more sociable and is what we tend to play on Thursdays. :-)
@taffy Not always easy Taffy. I've often been able to work in our various postings, but am now just enjoying the 'not working' phase. Last time we lived in Paris I worked full time, had two kids of primary school age, and never had time to do anything very much in Paris. So, this time round, I'm making up for it!
