Philharmonie de Paris by jamibann

Philharmonie de Paris

I went to a Marc Chagall exhibition yesterday entitled : Le Triomphe de la Musique. Excellent. A combination of sculptures, paintings, costumes and classical music. The building, designed by Jean Nouvel, is also interesting - the exterior being a mosaic of 'bird' shaped tiles.

I now must go to the Opera House in Paris to see the domed ceiling Chagall painted there.
Wow -- what a treat to be able to photograph there! This is great with wonderful lines bringing us into the image. Fantastic textures. Fav.

Amazing architecture.

What a magnificent structure! Those tiles look like tessellations. Really like the lines leading us into the building.

Beautiful shot Issi! An amazing building!

I am definitely going to visit this during the holidays, Issi. The walk to the building itself looks pretty daunting! Very nice shot.

Perfect for your b&w treatment - such a stunning building with such grat lines.

I'm so glad you mentioned the bird-shaped tiles — that inspired me to look closer at the design of the wall on the right. Sure enough, lots of wings in flight! Excellent B&W photography. (Is one portion of this roof metal? It appears to be shiny and reflective.)

I looked the building up on the net... sure enough - shiny surface in the one part. You did amazing getting only one individual in the photo (which actually adds a nice extra touch). Most of the pics on line show long queues outside.

Fabulous building well captured, fav!

Wonderful building and your b&w and comp compliment it beautifully!

@lyndemc How sweet to have made the effort to check out this building on the net. It only opened in January of this year, and it was my first visit there. It's not in a particularly nice part of town (right out in the north-east of Paris), but is a fantastic building - I was very impressed. The exhibition was excellent too. It was really quiet when we were there, but you know I think a lot of people are staying away from public places in Paris at the moment. They're still a bit nervous after the events of 13th November.

@jammyb The exhibition is really well done June - combination of classical music and clever styles of exhibiting the paintings and sculptures. I'm sure Jenna would also like it - there are lots of theatre and ballet costumes exhibited too.

@darylo It's a beautiful building Daryl - Depending on your available time however, you may want to put this on your list, but maybe not top. It's not in the nicest part of town (19th ar) and there's nothing much around about it. However, if you were to catch an exhibition or a performance, that would make it VERY worthwhile! The Opera Garnier is a whole different experience right in the centre of Paris. Do put on your list the Louis Vuitton Foundation though - if it's not there already. It's quite new and well worth a visit!
