I went into Paris on Friday to meet a friend for lunch and attend an appointment in the afternoon. On the way to lunch I had a stroll around Cour d'Honneur of the Palais Royal which is host to the Colonnes de Buren.
This is a highly controversial art installation created by the French artist Daniel Buren in 1985–1986, which replaced the courtyard's former parking lot. Some of the columns extend below courtyard level and are surrounded by pools of water into which passersby toss coins. The project was the idea of the culture minister at the time, Jack Lang.
Love controversial art .. anything to get people thinking is good. However the building in the background is stunning ,just those arched windows alone are special.
