I passed by this beautiful building on Saturday in Paris - one which I'm embarrassed to admit I've never noticed before. Wikipedia tells me that the building was originally used as a place to negotiate the trade of grain and other commodities, and is now used to provide services to businesses by the Paris Chamber of Commerce. It has its origins in a circular corn exchange built in 1763–67, with an open-air interior court that was capped by an iron dome in 1811. In a major reconstruction in 1888–89 much of the structure was replaced, although the layout remained the same and the dome was retained with modifications. The dome of the building is listed as a historical monument.
The City of Paris sold the building to the Paris Chamber of Commerce for one symbolic franc in 1949!
Only realised after I posted this that I hadn't made a very good job of removing the power lines from the front of the building. Redid it and posted it in my odds and sods album. http://365project.org/jamibann/odds-and-sods/2016-05-10
@kandkids Thanks. I just noticed however, when I looked at it again, that although I thought I'd removed the power line draped across the front of the building that there are still traces of it. Very strange. Must redo that!
@pennystot It is, I agree. You'll only see the bits of power lines if you look on the big screen. I'm about to post an amended version on my odds and sods album. I made the mistake of not looking closely enough when doing it the first time, which works on small screen, but it all shows up horribly on the big screen. They stretched from the lamppost on the left across the front of the building and off to the right hand side. Very annoying. My photoshop skills just about manage to do something about that - but only just, clearly!
@parisouailleurs Tu m'apprends des choses Helene! Je n'avais aucune idée, mais maintenant j'ai lu des infos concernant cette future Fondation ... très intéressant! Merci!
Gorgeous old building with such great history (as does just about all of Paris). 1 Franc?!....they got themselves a bargain! Beautiful shot, love the B&W :)
