EU Referendum by jamibann

EU Referendum

Oh boy. My daughter's first vote, and not at all the result we expected. I'm disappointed on many fronts.

Because I didn't think we should leave the EU (although I do understand some reasons for wishing to do so).

Because I'm shocked at the fallout - nobody seems to know how this will work out and the bickering and mess left behind in the wake of the vote is frankly scandalous.

Because the 'Leave' vote has been associated with bigotry and racism. So sad. Not all 'Leave' voters had immigration in mind when they voted to leave.

Because of the divisive nature of a referendum - any referendum.

Because of what may now happen in Scotland because of it - we're on track for another referendum because Scotland voted to stay in the EU and are effectively being taken out because of England and Wales' votes.

Because I had no vote - having not been resident in the UK for more than 15 years (16 to be precise).

It's all so sad. I believe in a United Kingdom and I believe that although the EU is far from perfect, that we were better in than out.

That's all folks. More photos to come from my week away, and I'll be catching up on commenting very soon!
I am very surprised with the results of the referendum, and agree with you. Must be difficult for you as a national of the UK

I agree, Issi. Sad. Never thought the Leave voters would win.

I was surprised by the outcome of the vote too. Sorry to hear it did not go your way.

It was a shock and I thought your 'because' list was poignant and powerful. A wake up call for here too...and now interesting to be reading about efforts for a 're-do.'

OUT, Have no fear, I knew England before the EU and it was a much better place to live in. We cannot have unlimited people here, we do not have enough housing, schools, or hospitals to look after them, I have always paid my taxes, but now have to wait two weeks to see a Doctor.

@taffy NO CHANCE.

@novab Please do not be sorry, it went my way, and I know we shall be better off. Trust me.

@gijsje Well we did, and we will get the rewards in a couple of years. England will once again belong to England, and a much nicer place to live. Even the England rugby results are on our side.

@anazad511 Well the people who live here are the ones that matter, and we will have a better country to live in, in a few years time, don't worry about us, now we can go forward.

A wonderful photo to have as a memory of your daughter's first voting experience...which it appears will bring back a flood of mixed emotions.

@peterday Peter, NOTHING would make me happier than to be able to say 'you were right'. It's going to take a while to convince me of that though - we just seem to have created a right old mess.

@jamibann Give it time, trust me. However I do understand your concern.

I like the placement of the figure and overall composition. Good luck to all!

If only more 18+ year olds had voted....... I think this is a referendum where the 16+ should have had a vote. It's their future.

This is not a political forum but by living in Europe I've voted with my feet.

Glad that your daughter voted when she was able to. Sorry that you're not pleased with the results.

Great shot Issi! It will be interesting to see how it all plays out and I'm hoping nothing but the best for you and all of England! Scotland as well. We have a scary election on our horizon too, as our candidate choices are not great and downright embarrassing. Good luck to all of us!
