Meet John. He's a Burra Bear, all the way from Shetland. I have two already in my home in Ballater and the lady currently living in our house noticed them and bought me this little chap as a gift and a thank you for letting her stay in our home for so long, following the floods. I took him over to Paris to stay for a while before he eventually goes back to settle down in Ballater! :-)
He's adorable. Lots of patience to put him together. I have a soft spot for bears. I have collected them for years. We have a few hundred bears of various sizes and made from different materials. Many of the soft toy type I'm thinking of donating to a children's home or some such place.
I had never heard of these. Very cute and a wonderful way to recycle old sweaters. I have a friend who used to unwind sweaters she found in thrift shops and reknit with the yarn. I sent a link to the bears to her. She might want to try her hand at this.
@randystreat Yes, these bears all start life as old Shetland sweaters,(Shetland being famous for its wool and 1-ply lace shawls and fair-isle sweaters). I love the idea of using old sweaters in such a way! I hope your friend likes the idea.
