Marriage Lintel by jamibann

Marriage Lintel

I went to see a friend in Fife yesterday and she took me to visit the village of Falkland.

Many of the domestic buildings in this little conservation village are decorated with marriage lintels. According to tradition, house owners had their initials carved on their homes to mark their wedding day, the day they moved in or the date of the building.

I thought it was absolutely fascinating, and I wonder if GL and BD got married or moved into this house in 1777?
Love the idea of the marriage lintel.
