Stonehenge

The mind just boggles. How did people move these these stones into place 4500 - 5000 years ago? It must have been very important to them to make such a massive effort.

On our way back to London yesterday after the wedding, we stopped at Stonehenge to visit. Storm Brian was visiting too, but we were lucky and got a moment of beautiful sunshine between some very heavy rain showers! I did the stupid thing however of leaving my camera in the car ... thinking it was in my bag. I-phone to the rescue! Phew.
A great image of this incredible work.

Well done for thee capture! We came past en route to and from Devon but nowhere to stop. Slow moving traffic on the return but still not slow enough!

Well done for getting this iconic image in spite of the weather and lack of camera! It's such an awe inspiring place. We recently visited a "modern " stone henge just outside Esperance in West Australia - I'll upload an image when I have wi-fi again.

A very impressive structure that I must visit when we are down that end of the country. A great capture

So impressive and amazing that they built it all those years ago. I was fortunate enough to visit there many years ago (well before I developed an interest in photography!) but would love to go back now and see it again.

Thank goodness for iPhones! It would have been gutting to be in such an iconic and interesting place and not able to record it!

This is definitely a wonder. We attended a lecture recently that explained just how this was accomplished. Fascinating. I'd love to see it..... Definitely a FAV. Your phone got an awesome capture of it.

I salute the English dedication to preserving this piece. If it would be anywhere else I bet some kids would've knocked it down or rudely redecorated with graffiti.

@quietpurplehaze Yes, we had planned it in advance, and visited from the centre. However, that meant parking in the car park and taking a courtesy bus up the to site. Imagine my horror when I realised that in my bag I was only carrying my wide angle lens ... no camera! No time to go back for it, so iphone it was! Grr. I'll be more careful next time.

@dkbarnett I was almost afraid to tell hubby that I had no camera! It was because I was rushing. I'd removed camera from bag at an earlier stage, when looking for something, and had left it on the seat of the car. Hubby had thrown his sweater over it, by mistake, and so I never realised until I went to use it ... too late as we'd taken a bus to the site from the car park, and didn't have time to go back. I'll be more careful next time!
