I went along to the Pompidou Centre yesterday to see the César exhibition before it finishes on 26th March. I wasn't disappointed. His work is very interesting, even if it involves a lot of squashing of cars and a thumb fetish! It was beautifully displayed on the top floor of the Centre, with wonderful views over a cold, wintry Paris to boot.
However, on my way out, I realised that there was a Sheila Hicks exhibition in one of the other galleries, and so I popped in by. I really like the work of this American artist, and only recently learned that she's been resident in Paris since 1964.
This girl caught my eye, standing in front of this massive pile of brightly coloured cushions. I wanted to take a run and jump right into the middle of them - but refrained and made do with a nice vibrant image.
That couldn't be a more fabulous juxtaposition! What a display! I love the idea of taking the grandkids to any art museum, I I think this would be impossibly irresistible to them! Actually, it looks like something you'd see in an interactive Children's Museum!
Catching her there with the black legs really makes a nice contrast to all the bright orange tones - also the contrast of solid figure against the soft pillows. Having trouble opening my mind enough to think "art" but it's a display I like. Well composed.
PS: I saw your WWM photo on the slideshow!
