The best laid schemes of mice and men ...

I did say I felt I would have some different photography shots coming up.

As some of you will know we had an extension built on our house in Scotland and instead of taking 9 months to do, it took about 18 (and is not yet finished ...). However, as I thought it was fairly short term, we didn't empty the house but condensed our stuff into rooms unaffected by the work. All the kitchen stuff, packed into trunks and boxes, went into our daughter's bedroom.

When I started moving stuff back into the kitchen last time I was over, I realised we'd had a visitor - he/she had left nibbled traces on various food packets! So I went gingerly about sorting things out and throwing things out - all the while looking out for our furry friend!

Yesterday hubby took over the task of finishing emptying the bedroom and found this little creature, recently dead, but all tucked up in a nest of my daughter's t-shirts. It had nibbled a big whole through several of her favourite Hash House Harrier t-shirts.

Hubby gave the little soul a fitting burial in our garden. We're hoping nonetheless that there are no more hiding in her room!

You'll excuse me for not moving anything in the nest to get a better image!
Oh poor you... lets hope you have no more surprises ... I hate mice...

Oh my! I love mice but I wouldn't want them eating my stuff or living in my house! Hope that is the last one..........and I hope the work on the extension is finished soon before it drives you round the bend!

We find mice regularly in the house - they either make their own way in or our Chania brings in more than she can eat and abandons them.

Buy some mouse poison and leave in daughters bedroom, that will see them off. That's what I done in my shed when they eat my flags.

I guess better a dead mouse than a live one. Poor little thing looked quite comfortable there!

I'm glad you found him when you did.

Oh dear, at least he had a natural demise, bless and hope not too much damage done.

You handled it much better than I would have! And while I am reluctant to say it, a rodent-ridder type of person I hired once because i'd found a similarly dead critter in our house said it is unlikely there is just one. Wishing you much luck!!

Your daughter really doesn't need to know.

@vignouse Actually it could have been a cat brought it in. We also found traces of a cat (in the dust on our dining table ...)! Footprints and the mark of a sitting cat! I think all sorts of things have been wandering through our house during our absence and the renovations! I dread to think!!!

@gijsje @tunia Daughter none too impressed, but as the room is ultimately to be my study/photography/reading room, she is handling it not too badly!

These little surprises! I don't know of any in our new house but we've had them all along in our other house. Nice capture. If you hadn't said it was dead, we wouldn't have known.
