We're lucky enough to live in a village where we still have a butcher, delicatessen, baker, paper-shop and DIY-shop nestled amongst the various tea and coffee shops on the main street.
I do go to the supermarket in the village and I do shop online, but I also resolved some time back, that even if it's more expensive, that I'd use the local small shops whenever possible. On the basis that if you don't use it, you lose it. This morning I popped quickly down to the supermarket for some staple items, however, on passing the delicatessen I saw these beautiful beetroots and apples and luscious red sticks of rhubarb on display outside. I had to stop and buy. Now I just need to work out what to do with them. Lots of options, I know!
I agree Issi that it’s much better to shop local. It may be more expensive but they will all taste so much better than the fruit and veggies transported across the world! I love beetroot! Enjoy!
VML the variety of textures here...I can almost feel and smell those beetroot with all that secret colour within...mmm! Rhubard, now you're talking ;-)
Oh yum! Can't beat good seasonal fruit and veg. Always seems bonkers to me to eat stuff flown from the other side of the world that really belongs in Summer when there is frost on the ground here. This looks wonderful
Great still life and I am sure there will be plenty options of use! I looked at the beetroot and thought of a chocolate and beetroot cake, yum. Rhubarb crumble, baked apples, you have got me going now!!
You have the same work top as me......I have just eaten a bowl of stewed red rhubarb bought from our local veggie shop! So good for you at this time of the year!
@happypat Thought of you last night as I ate our roasted rhubarb with vanilla ice cream! First time I've tried roasting it in the oven - delicious. It keeps its colour better and the pieces stay whole. Lots left over, so we'll be having more tonight. Planning on roasting the beetroot today too.
Nice image.
