Another rainy day here and I spent most of it painting the inside of our 'sitooterie' 'outhouse' or 'shieling' as we're going to call it. It's the little wooden house which is linked to the granite house. Apparently the owners of the 'big' house used to move into the shieling in summer and rent out the big house. We don't do that! ;-) However, we are doing it up as it's a perfect indoor eating area for barbecues - and let's face it, we need that in Scotland. It will get a trial run next weekend as we have lots of friends coming to visit. Good use of a rainy day.
In the meantime, the plum blossom is just opening up on the small tree in front of our house.
That's a lovely photo.....we haven't any out here just yet but our Camellia has a few flowers on...we took its fleece coat off today.
I love the word 'shieling'. My dad grew up in the Western Isles and in the summer he would spend time out at the shieling on the moor and much fun was had. I spent most of my summers over there but only played in them when the peats were being taken home....quite a community affair! And yes it's definitely an advantage to have somewhere like that for Aberdeenshire barbecues!!
Enjoyed reading your narrative about your ‘shieling’ and would love to see photos of it all finished and being used at your barbecue next weekend. :-)
Great details and I really like your choice of B&W!
