We drove down to Banchory to do a big shop at the Supermarket yesterday - not something we do very often. Afterwards, we had lunch at the Woodend Barn - a great little organic café. Alongside this café is a wild garden and an allotment system, so we decided to have a little walk round to get some ideas for our future gardening plot. What a lovely surprise to find about 50 allotments, all in the early stages of being prepped for the vegetable season to come. Some had great little sheds as well as tables and chairs to sit back and relax after a hard day on the allotment! I particularly liked this one.
There’s something about allotments that fascinate me. I think the whole world revolves around an allotment community. This is remarkable that this looks really out in the countryside, normally more in built up areas it’s great to see such open sky & of course the scarecrow is the icing on the cake so to speak! I really liked that allotment TV show with Fern Britain but they seem to have decided not to do it anymore. Fave!
@gamelee Oh, it's not much, but given that we haven't cycled all winter, we need to get some miles (and hills) in. We are doing the Loch Ness Etape (106 km round Loch Ness). We've done similar distances before, but this one has a rather nasty, long, hill at the 55km mark, apparently! So, we're trying to get ready so as not to make fools of ourselves. ;-) Feeling fairly confident now. Only a couple of weeks to go though, so just as well!
@happypat Yes, this one is pretty much in the country. I would have thought that there wouldn't be a market for allotments in that area, but they chap we chatted with told us there's currently a wait list of 16 people.
