Last month I posted an old photo of my dad's great-grandparents and mentioned that we had had contact from an Australian lady who thought we were related. She was absolutely right. Her great-grandmother Ann Duff was a sister of dad's grandfather, John Duff. Ann emigrated to Australia in 1913, but died 5 years later. Dad never knew, thinking in fact that she had died in 1910 in the UK. Cutting a long story short, Kerry and her husband were travelling in the UK, and dad and I went down to Edinburgh yesterday to meet with them. What an interesting meeting it was - so much fun to find a whole family in Australia who are relatives of ours, and we had no idea that they were out there! I think we'll be seeing more of them - despite the distance.
What a fantastic story Issi. There would be excitement all round & so much to talk about. Perhaps a visit to Australia could be on the cards next! Always good to have family in far flung places to visit!
What joy! We had a similar experience about 16 years ago when we discovered a new cousin and we have visited each other quite a few times since then, it's been great!
