The mysterious partridge by jamibann

The mysterious partridge

This is a first for me! I came home on Monday evening and hubby told me we had a strange bird at the kitchen glass doors - looking as if it wanted to come in. He said it had been there for about half an hour. I wondered if it would still be there, and right enough it was! I sneaked around the corner with my camera and of course it left the doorstep and headed for the garden, but I managed to get a couple of shots. On further investigation we discovered that it was a partridge. It was gone in the morning, and we haven't seen it come back, so it's a bit of a mystery, but I'm delighted to have got a shot of it - it's a lovely bird.
Great photo....how fascinating. I hope he has some friends close by!

Isn’t this just a lovely bird? We have a pair that come to feed under the bird table, they turned up a couple of days ago & we were so thrilled to have them back again this year! I daren’t go & take a photo as I know they would be off. Such pretty plump birds!

Such distinct and colorful markings. One would enjoy having a whole flock of these hanging out in the yard! Great catch with your camera.

Ooops! I meant to reply (again) as these are Red Legged Partridges. We have a pair which 'appear' in Spring and take up residence in the farther reaches of our garden...complete with dead end...and deliberately untended so as to attract wild life. This is at least their 3rd visit. They've been in the lane foraging, but not yet in the garden. Our Winter birds have disappeared and there's been no sign of nest building etc. Changes in agricultural practice are contributing to fewer species and fewer birds. In previous years these RLP have come to the patio and eaten peanuts (for birds). We are eagerly awaiting this year’s floor show...

Hope you get one too;-)

@s4sayer Interesting. We too have an untended part at the end of our garden, and this is definitely where our pheasant hangs out, and probably the partridge found it appealing too. Not seen it again though. I hope yours turn up this Spring again!

Saw them this morning on my way home, hugging the edge of the lane. I stopped and they advanced far enough for me to move slowly onwards as they disappeared into the garden proper and onwards into their Splendid Isolation.

Beautifully captured, Issi! Clear details, lovely markings, wonderful DoF, and the water drops in the grass are nice also. :-)
