Well, I finally got my day in the bird hide at Glentanar Estate, and was not disappointed. I never saw the adult birds, but the fledgling, at 9 weeks old, was very active in the nest. I have not yet had time to sort through the 700 plus photos I took, and I'm sure I'll only be keeping about 6 of them ... but here's one of the bird exercising his wings. At the end of my photography session (the last one the Estate plans to do this year, as the bird will fly very soon) I was lucky enough to witness the ringing of this bird by a professional. He shinned up the tree, got hold of the bird, bagged it and lowered it down, already hooded, in a sports bag. Below, the RSPB man received the bird and unpacked it from the bag. It just sat there. Never tried to escape. They measured it, tagged it, ringed it, weighed it (3.9 kilos) and then put it back up into the nest. What a piece of luck to be there to see all of that! I'll no doubt post more photos once I've been through them all, but in the meantime, I'm off to Ireland tomorrow to visit my elderly father-in-law.
What a day you’ve had....pretty exciting to get to see all that....such a clear photo & the lens did you proud. Looking forward to seeing others! Enjoy Ireland, I love that country!
Wow that is quite a day! What a fantastic experience. And it's so easy to take hundreds of photos.
Can't imagine being back in the day of developing film!
Great capture of this golden eagle!
