As I walked past this sign yesterday on my way to the golf club, it struck me that it was worth a photo, as I suspect it will disappear shortly. The Glen Lui has been a Ballater institution for years, and has now been bought by an Aberdeen businessman for use as a second home. He has been given authorisation to knock down the entire building, which is no small feat in itself - it's massive! The granite bricks are to be re-used however in some way. It's sad to see this building go, as it's been part of Ballater for many, many years, and somewhere we used to like to go for dinner. However, change is sometimes necessary, and I wish the new owner lots of luck and happiness in his new abode ... although he won't be moving in any time soon!
Yes a times change & it’s a perilous time to be in business these days. I expect it will make a lovely home but it’s sad for the community when it’s only for a second home....Lets hope the family come up lots!
This is one of those situations where a photograph preserves both memory and history. I've photographed a couple barns and buildings around here that have had a similar fate. I look at the pictures now and am amazed at what I preserved. Your sign has done the same.
Always sad when iconic buildings are demolished.
Sutherland no more
Lewis no more
Skye no more
I'll bet there are not many wish the new owner luck.
