We grabbed yesterday by the horns as the forecast said it was going to be a good day in the mountains. To maximise on daylight, we set off at 6am from home, were walking by 6.45am, and reached this remote lodge at the foot of Loch Callater by 7.45am. The moon was so bright that our head torches were not required. It was a beautiful day up there ... even though the visibility came and went. We had the opportunity to practise our navigation skills, which does make me nervous. I feel the panic rising when I can't see where I'm going and I have to trust the compass 100%. The surge of relief when the cloud lifts is palpable! Practise makes perfect though. And yesterday was a good day. I never want to be out there on a bad day in winter!
A delightful capture and enlightening narrative - it reminded me of: The Lunar Society, prominent Midlanders, who met regularly between 1765 and 1813 in Birmingham (UK). They met during the full moon, as the extra light made the journey home safer, in the time of no street lighting.
Great adventure................sounds like my husband and I when canoeing and trying to get on the lake before the sun comes up in the summer..............super early! Lol
What a wonderful wintery capture, I agree about the compass
and weather. Got lost one using a compass in a deep thick woods
because of all the windfalls, Oh well
