@shutterbug49 @milaniet @radiogirl @radiogirl @randystreat @ljmanning This photo is perhaps deceptive. In the UK, the grey squirrel is much bigger than the red, but the reds have tuftier ears! The red is a protected species as it has disappeared completely from many areas of the UK. The grey squirrel isn’t native to the UK but is now widespread and has become the dominant species. The grey squirrel, combined with habitat loss, are the main reasons for the decline of the red squirrel. Squirrelpox is fatal to red squirrels but is carried by grey squirrels without causing them any harm, so the reds have no chance against the greys. In the UK, there are approximately 140,000 red squirrels and 2.5 million grey squirrels. Thanks to Google for helping me out with some of that information!
