I don't seem to be getting much photography done this week. I'm focused on finishing the paint stripping and varnishing of the window shutters I started last month! I'm nearly there, (it's hard work and a long job) a couple more days and I'll be finished. Also I'm trying to get all dad's slides digitalised ... I'm getting there too, but I need more than a week to finish - maybe by the end of the month. So, that means when I haven't got a photo, I'll post one of dad's! :-)
In 1967, following the award of a Winston Churchill Fellowship, he travelled extensively in the US and Canada for 6 months, studying Mountain Rescue techniques.
I liked this photo of his, the NY 1967 skyline, taken from the deck of the QE2 as it left the US heading for the UK. It must have been quite the trip for dad, a country boy, who'd practically never left the North East of Scotland. After reading his diaries of that period of time though, it seems he didn't think much of New York, particularly the cab drivers who seemed to rip him off! He loved the rest of the country.
And by the way, for the record, I LOVE New York! :-)
Really cool photo! My parents took the QE2 to England back then ... don't remember if it was '67 or '68. They might've been on the same cruise as you dad!
That’s a truly fascinating photo. Love that the skyline is so perfectly captured as well as the passengers. A very exciting time for your dad…a great adventure. It would really open his world up big time!
I love NY too!

I could tell the photo was dated with the hairdo's!
