Gairnside Graveyard by jamibann

Gairnside Graveyard

I walked up to this small, very old graveyard to photograph a couple of gravestones for a cousin who is doing work on family history. I got the photos he was looking for and whilst I was there I saw this rather sad headstone. The writing was so clear, compared with many of the other stones and I was taken by the description of the 12 year-old Donald John Farquharson ... 'a most dutiful and affectionate child'.
Unusual and interesting gravestone ... lots of information on it.

Yes very clear considering the age of the stone. I'm glad he was dutiful, how unusual to be described in this way!

So very moving…Donald was obviously a model child …strange how the word love is not mentioned though…..it would be the formal times he lived in I expect! Lovely engraving means he can always be talked about down the years!
I love graveyards!
