Mhairi had never been to Knock Castle, so, yesterday was at the day. It's a fairly short walk from our home, and is a four storey ruin. It was apparently granted to the Gordons of Abergeldie after the battle of Corrichie.
They say that one day (I believe in the 16th Century) Alexander Gordon sent his seven sons out to cut peat, but they strayed onto Clan Forbes land. A battle ensued and all the brothers were killed. When Alexander heard the news of his sons' fates, he collapsed at the top of the stairs and fell to his death. The Forbes Laird was then executed and all his lands forfeited to the Abergeldie Gordons. They certainly lived in interesting and violent times!
