This was taken in the small town of Rainier, in Thurston County, WA. Town started as a railway stop in the 1870's and was first settled in the 1890's. I found the gravesites of the first settlers when I was walking around the tiny cemetery today.
This is to my knowledge, a working rail track - the whole thing appears to be supported by these creosote soaked pilings.
The graffiti was a colorful touch.
Great shot! Love that we are almost neighbors! Love Rainer...we used to go their when we had our boat moored at St. Helens. Haven't seen this though. Lot's of history around there.
@mamamia@swilde@maggiemae - Thanks - it was a bit tricky to get a pic - we pulled off to the side but traffic was whizzing by so I couldn't risk getting out into the road for a better shot. @vitamink - yes - I would probably be surprised and not so keen on riding over something like that. @eyesmile - We live South of Eatonville - this is pretty close though - we go through Yelm to get to Olympia - and today decided to go off some of the back roads to see what was there. It was eye-opening.
