@nanalisarocks - Thanks Lisa. I don't see them during the day often but worry a little if I do. I read that bird seed will bring them out of hiding - and we have several bird feeders so maybe that's the draw. I felt bad for this little guy - too small to be out in daylight by himself. He can't have been more than 6" long (not counting tail). @mamamia - Thanks Joanne - too bad they grow into big possums and hiss - LOL. @zambianlass - Thanks - they are definitely cute as babies.
He is gorgeous!! Why are possums disliked?? Not exactly a native animal over here other side of the pond, so not sure what they are like! Surely something this cute couldn't be a pest???? ;-)
@andrina - Thank you. Good question. They are not native here either - they were introduced. I think the main reason they are so detested is because they can carry rabies (but so do raccoons, squirrels, and some birds and people don't hate them). Possums are pretty ugly as adults - they look like over-sized rats. I have never had fear of them - they are pretty defenseless.
This is such a great capture -- the details are very clear. And for such a awful looking adult animal, you've captured such a sweet expression and face.
