Another shot of the stumps - this is low tide at Alder Lake dam - legged decades ago and the stumps remain. Somehow the fog makes it look a little better.
@nanderson@aglennc - Thanks Nancy and Anita. There used to be a town where Alder Lake is - it was flooded to build the dam and reservoir which used to be the deepest in the US. If course now (60 plus years I believe) since it was built there are many that are deeper. It DOES look other worldly, especially when foggy.
It is a little eerie. There is a lake east of Salem (Oregon) ...Detroit Lake. that is reservoir. The original town was flooded when the dam was built. Now when they lower the water level in the winter you can still see some foundations of the old town and lots of tree stumps as well. Very much like this scene. The fog adds a great atmosphere.
@eyesmile - that is eerie, Gena - we drive by Alder Lake to get to Mt Rainier - sometimes the water is very low - and while I have heard you can sometimes see parts of an old chapel, I haven't seen it. For some reason I find it all creepy that a town gets flooded like that.
oh this is MAGNIFICENT in its desolation. The fog is glorious....and really adds to the mood of the shot. I love thinking about that town and all that must have gone on there....and the decision to flood it. It must have felt like a death to the people living there.....a FAV for me.
