A filler.
I have been unwell for a day or two and returned home from a brief hospital stay today. Much better now and eager to catch up with your pics.
I found this scene sad - so many birds choke and die from eating garbage people carelessly discard, but I did enjoy watching this crow and seagull squabbling for morsels from this fast food wrapper. The gull had his foot firmly on the box but the crow popped up behind and gave him a peck. Made me laugh! Do view large if you have a moment.
@taffy - Thanks Taffy - yes - recovering.
They were certainly serious - eventually three more crows came out - I have noticed corvids seem to work as a team and they got the wrapper from the gull.
@jankoos Glad to hear it! Speaking of corvids, I've noticed at least 100 of them congregating in a certain zone downtown right before sunset, I need to find a good spot for photos, it's UNREAL! The trees are full of them. When I walk to work in the morning, not a sign of them, other than the sidewalk and street being covered with bird droppings.
That's interesting, Lisa - I wonder what they are doing in that spot at sunset - maybe they roost there? I think they live in large families or colonies. I read a novel by Joseph Moninger - Eternal on the Water - beautiful but sad - and I learned a fair bit I didn't know about members of the crow family.
Hope you are OK Jan. I have to say that I hate people who can't either find a bin or take it with them (with a vengence). I seem to spend half my life picking up after strangers (and the other half on here...= no life at all). I love the colours in this gulls chest. Totally mother of pearl.
Definitely territorial, but it is a harsh world of fast food garbage. Hope you are feeling better, Jan. My son also came home sick today and it is finals week for him.
I completely agree with you about the potential harm to birds from trash left by thoughtless or uncaring humans. This shot is wonderful though, especially the expression on each bird's face, which is easier to see when this is viewed large. Glad you are feeling better, hope you stay that way!
@swilde - Sue your comment made me smile! I am hanging in there, thanks! Anyway - the picking up of trash - oh yes - me too - makes me sad to see how much of it is everywhere and especially in the oceans. Ha - so agreed about time spent here too - but that is happy time seeing all the wonderful places and images fellow 365-ers share.
Sorry it hear you haven't been well. So glad your feeling a bit better. I totally agree about people leaving trash that can harm animals...but I can also see that would have been amusing to watch the two squabbling over it. Great capture.
A fabulous shot in large view - I can see where you would laugh out loud seeing the birds fighting over the food. Good to hear you are better, Jan, so sorry for your sickness.
Like, who is boss here and it is not necessarily the big guy! Sorry to here you have actually had to go to hospital - must be serious enough! Sympathies and good wishes!
First...I am sorry to hear of your illness and do hope you are on the mend for sure!! Glad you took the time to capture this fun exchange between Gull and Crow!! Very fun shot!
What a great capture Jan! Those crows do work in groups - very clever birds but I am not keen on them for some reason? So sorry to hear about your illness - I hope you are feeling much better now!
They were certainly serious - eventually three more crows came out - I have noticed corvids seem to work as a team and they got the wrapper from the gull.
So glad you are home. Any trip to a hospital is a serious situation. I hope recovery is speedy for you.
