No.8 Green Hairstreak

There were several - probably all males - perching on bilberry bushes at Cut-thorn Hill, Buxton. The females generally stay away from the males, searching for suitable places to lay their eggs. These butterflies are very small, only 4mm across when their wings are closed as in the photo. The upper side of their wings, only seen when in flight, is brown.

@pinkpaintpot you have to know where their colonies are - they're not common everywhere. And easily overlooked as they're so small!
