Spritz cookie gun

This was my mom’s cookie gun. I think this was a very popular thing in the ‘60’s. I can remember her making these cookies especially at Christmas time. Every time I try to make them I end up with cookies that aren’t so pretty, but I am determined to try again. If you don’t see them on 365 you know they were not worthy. 😔
I'm intrigued as to how this works. Is it just to put a pattern on the top of the cookie or does it pipe out the cookie dough too?

@serendypyty First you put the pattern at the end of the gun (it screws on). Next you put the dough inside of the gun and press the trigger which pipes out the dough. It’s a little tricky because if you don’t release the trigger in time you end up with a glob of dough on the cookie sheet. Wish me luck!

I have an old one too. I've never been successful. Perhaps something's changed in the make up of the ingredients since that time and now.

@randystreat Kathy i read the instructions thoroughly and it specifically lists shortening not butter or margarine. It seemed to work better than the last time I tried to make them.
