Common Grackle in Hailstorm by jbritt

Common Grackle in Hailstorm

A huge crow came to my bird feeder, but it left as soon as I picked up my camera. I was lucky to catch this Common Grackle. It also flew away as I approached, but I got one shot from a distance. I'm glad I didn't take time to put on my telephoto lens or I would have lost the shot completely.

Even though this is not a slow shutter speed (1/160th of a second), you can still see the hail coming down in streaks. You can also see it on the Grackle's back. It seems strange to have hail in April, but it is the second time this week.
I've seen no hail out my way, and count my blessings. I love this shot - again, so clear, with his iridescent feathering, the hail outline, the clear eye... Was this shot through glass?
