Morton's Steak House by jbritt

Morton's Steak House

I took my youngest son and my husband to eat at Morton's Steak House in Crystal City tonight. We rarely go out to eat at all, so this was a real treat. I won a $200 gift certificate in a photo contest several months ago and we finally found a time to use it. I expected to be able to visit more than once but the certificate didn't even cover the whole meal. We paid an additional $15.

When I won the contest, after looking at the online menu a friend said, "I hope the t-shirt fits." In addition to the certificate I won a very nice wicking t-shirt (that didn't fit the first time but they sent me a second one that fits). I am mostly a vegetarian, but I eat fish occasionally and that's what I had tonight. My son had steak, but my husband and I had salmon. The meal was delicious and the service was superb. And it was nice to spend time with my son. But I really don't feel like I'm missing much by eating at home most of the time.

It reminded me of a recent article in The Atlantic magazine titled, "The Rich are different from you and me". This dinner gave me a glimpse into how the rich live.

I ordered salmon with Bearnaise sauce and grilled asparagus with balsamic glaze. My son ordered rib-eye steak and mashed potatoes. My husband ordered lobster bisque, tomato and onion salad with balsamic vinaigrette, salmon, with a side of mushrooms and spinach. Everything was delicious and we took some home to eat tomorrow. We all drank tap water. I'm sure this could have cost twice as much if we had ordered wine, desserts and all had appetizers.
My wife & I have a restaurant two-for-one card with friends. We see it as motivation to hit life's pause button long enough to spend time with good friends, because, honestly, we eat pretty well at home. I grill salmon, chicken and pork with regularity and I love my bread machine with many bread recipes! Eating well does *not* necessarily mean "going out" (despite what twenty-somethings may think), so good for you! (Morton's is a high school classmate's favorite restaurant, but I think her income has two more *digits* than mine!) Oh, by the way, nice shot, Joan!!

What a lovely photo. Love the golden glow. So peaceful with no people to interrupt the soft view. We ate at Morton's once...it was delicious but way to much food and yes, quite costly.
