Driving around Gallup, New Mexico it is pretty obvious that the town needs a lot of help. One of the biggest indicators are the roads. This morning I got on my road bike to put in a few miles and enjoy the nice summer weather. Rattling through the neighborhood I avoided most of the bad spots on the road. Then I turned north onto County Road 1 and this is the northbound lane. Yes, this is supposed to be paved.
we have had a much wetter than usual bit of weather lately, and it has really taken a toll on our roads. We get really cold at night in the winter - into the low teens, and then warm up into the 40s or even 50s during the day. That puts a lot of stress onto the roads. Then add to it that there is some mining company running huge gravel trucks up and down this road all day, everyday. I may need to dig out my mountain bike just to ride around the neighborhood.
