Antique in Use

So following yesterday's find of a practically new, in the box, Sony Mavica 2 MP camera I charged the battery overnight and found a box of 3.5" floppy disks. I slapped one into the camera and took a couple of test frames. I only got four images before the camera said "Disk Full". Not wanting to turn this into a long process in case the next steps did not work I stopped shooting there.

The tricky thing was how to get the images from the camera to a computer and shared to the internet. After all, my laptop and desktop machines don't have floppy drives. With a little bit of digging in the garage I found my solution. An old Toshiba T4850CT laptop that has a floppy drive and on the side it has a PCMCIA slot. I have an old PCMCIA adapter that allows me to put SD cards in, and after some tense moments of thinking that computer and it's Windows 95 operating system would not work I got the machine working.

I did a file transfer to the SD card and then imported it to my real computer. I am impressed with the amount of image detail in the highlights. And of course there is the whole issue of digital noise. It is everywhere.

Still considering that the camera came out 14 years ago and was a consumer based item it performed okay.
I love the light and lines on this, Jeff. Welcome to the 365 project; I expect you'll enjoy having a place to post personal shots! Thanks for the follow; I'll follow you back -- look forward to having a glimpse through your lens!
