I know these boxes. They go back to designs of Shakers. They are therefore called "Shaker boxes". They made beautiful appliances and they built beautiful and functional houses. Their design can be described as classic - in the sense of timeless beauty.
They settled in Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, Kentucky, Ohio and - Massachusetts :) .
Not everything in their way of life can be taken as an example - but there are some notable aspects:
- Women and men shared the leadership functions.
- They did not fight in wars and believed in the equality of all people.
They combined diligence and creativity with the pursuit of the highest artisan product quality.
- They were inventive (washing machine, clothespin, circular saw).
I would like to see the houses and furniture in the original places. Very nice I imagine doing this in the fall - during the time of the Indian Summer. I would like to hike through the woods. - Culture and nature in one, so to speak.
