Battle of Gettysburg Cyclorama

This is a small portion of the 360 degree oil on canvas painting by the French artist Paul Philippoteaux and his assistants. He came to Gettysburg in 1882 to become familiar with the terrain. He hired a photographer to produce a series of panoramic photos for him to use as a reference and he talked with veterans of the battle. The painting recently underwent some restoration and was reopened in 2008 at the new visitor's center. It is an amazing sight to see.
Pretty amazing!

I haven't seen it since it was restored. I remember the talk about removing it and what a hub-bub that caused.
