The ginkgo is an amazing tree. Its history dates back 300 million years. The expressive fan leaves are notched in the midst.
Three ginkgo trees grow in my garden.
The ginkgo is a symbol of longevity, strength, hope and friendship. It has inspired poets like Goethe.
Goethe wrote this poem for his late love Marianne:
This leaf from a tree in the East,
Has been given to my garden.
It reveals a certain secret,
Which pleases me and thoughtful people.
Is it one living being,
Which has separated in itself?
Or are these two, who chose
To be recognized as one?
Answering this kind of question,
Haven't I found the proper meaning,
Don't you feel in my songs,
That I'm one and double?
What a wonderful high key shot of these gorgeous leaves. That translucent yellow is lovely - the simplicity of the shot terrific. Liked the information you gave with it - had heard of the ginkgo tree - just didn't know anything about them. Fav
This is stunning and beautiful, Jerome, as so many of the photos in your album. I love how you captured this distinct Ginkgo leaves. This pic and your other photos remind me so much on the photographic handwriting of lost friend, I miss dearly. Thank you for evoking some bittersweet memories. Welcome to 365; I will be following you and looking forward to more amazing photographs.
Love the bright yellow and the shadow of one leaf behind the other set beautifully against the stark white background. They are interesting and old trees though I've heard the female trees can drop smelly fruit. I've never seen that myself but my husband had one in his childhood home that did this.
@bethshepherd Thank you, Beth, for your nice comment!
You are right, the female trees drop smelly fruit. The stark white was a blue sky. But the photo is overexposed - I wanted the textures of the leaves against back light. But this white and yellow match - in my opinion - very well. It gives a cheerful atmosphere.
Wonderful photos you have in your album!
Goethe's poem is lovely addition to the narrative too.
