Venice in December: Only a few tourists stay here, now the city belongs to the locals. At this time it is much more peaceful, leisurely and tranquil than in noisy, buzzing and hot summer. Leafless are the trees, misty haze covers the alleyways and squares. A contemplative, slightly phlegmatic and melancholic atmosphere lays down over the lagoon city.
You just completely confirmed my "suspicion"! When we were there in the spring/summer, I couldn't help but think that to really see Venice you have to come in the winter - when it is gloomy and foggy, and there are no people around to distract you from what Venice really is. Jealous! Wonderful atmospheric photos.
@vera365 Vera - Thank you for your nice comment! :)
Venice... This city is unique. I know it in summer and in winter. It is an experience at any time of the year. Personally, I prefer to go there in winter - as you describe it: a little melancholic, enchanted by misty haze in the canals and alleys, immersed in a morbid tranquility. I love this atmosphere.
Thank you all for your nice comments!
For me it is still a very special experience to be in this community. I could not imagine it. It is beautiful in a wondrous way; it touches me as in the first days when I read the first comments...
A heartfelt thank you... and a wonderful new year with words, sentences, stories and nice shapes, colours, pictures in the book of life. They may touch, warm, enrich the soul and the spirit...
Happy New Year Jerome!
