pausing for a moment by jerome

pausing for a moment

The last part of the summit requires concentration. I have to overcome big stone blocks and loose boulders. And the mountain slope is ruddy steep. It's good to stop for a moment and enjoy the scenery. You see the glacier below and the alpine chain expanding on the horizon. The weather is fine and the mountain welcomes me.

A beautiful view and processing, fav

Your processing makes this look like a moonscape. Lovely!
February 26th, 2018
Great panorama, love the fish eye effect and the clouds
February 26th, 2018
Stunning Fav
February 26th, 2018
I have to ask - does the weather ever turn whilst you're up there and if so, do you have to wait it out?
February 26th, 2018
Beautiful image and processing. Are you hiking alone, Jerome?
February 26th, 2018
Spectacular!
February 26th, 2018
Love how you have used the rocks to frame this breath-taking unspoilt scene. Fav!
February 26th, 2018
Jerome, you not only seem to lead an amazing life, but no one documents it better than you! I do hope you have a book publisher!
February 26th, 2018
Stunning- fav!

What a fabulous collection of images this month. I am attempting to catch up this evening. It has been a delight looking through your album.
February 26th, 2018
Breathtaking...
February 26th, 2018
wow. another amazing image
February 26th, 2018
I am staggered by the extent to which the mountains stretch back into the distance. There is such a sense of harmony about this beautiful picture - between the mountains and the clouds and the glacier. And with your framing, you created a window onto this awesome scene.

@fbailey An important question - the weather in the mountains.
One of the most important things in the preparation of a tour in the mountains is the weather forecast. However, the weather in the high alpine area can turn surprisingly.
For a moment on this tour on Mt. Fürleg, I had the fear that rain might occur. Especially the last part to the summit would have been very risky in wet rocks. I would probably have reversed. But it stayed dry and the wind ceased largely.
If you are surprised by a violent thunderstorm in the mountains, there are the following rules of conduct:
- Avoid spots with water-bearing gutters and steel cables, even freestanding trees.
- Leave exposed areas and squat on the ground, both feet together - you absolutely must refrain from straddle-legged standing, walking and lying (step voltage!).

@Weezilou Thank you for your kind words, Louise! A book with pictures, a matching text - I have been carrying this idea for some time in me. So far, I did not have the time to devote myself to it. I think it would be a very nice job.
February 26th, 2018
@365karly1 In the mountains I am hiking alone. On a tour I am embraced by the sight of the rocks, by the light, by all appearances in the mountains. My focus is very much on how I can capture a subject with my camera.
If you take pictures on the way, you stop every companion. I also usually start very early - in the dark: not everyone likes that.
But sometimes it would be nice to share a beautiful mountain view with someone.
February 26th, 2018
@wag864 Thanks for your nice visit! Thanks for taking the time for my album! I'm very glad about that.
February 26th, 2018
@helenhall This is one of the reasons why I am in the mountains: the unobstructed view of the vastness, so close to the clouds. You always want to go back to the mountains. It is always a special experience, it does not wear off, but deepens with each tour. The pictures help me bring my memories to life. And it's nice to share these experiences.

Looks very otherworldly :) fav
February 26th, 2018
nice view... really looks mystical on black
February 26th, 2018
This could almost be a scene from Star Wars
February 26th, 2018
Almost unreal view - I can see where you'd most definitely have to stop if you want to look around at all - otherwise you'd better be watching only where you're walking. Wonderful processing of this beautiful scene.
February 27th, 2018
It has a surreal, otherworldly feel -- beautiful!
February 27th, 2018
Wow. Fabulous.
February 27th, 2018

Surreal for sure. Breathe deep
February 27th, 2018
@jerome The rules are the same if you're caught on a golf course except that it's good to do the squat in a bunker if possible, it's lower than the surface ground.
February 27th, 2018
This is an absolutely stunning image, I really don't know how you managed to keep your camera still enough to get the pano shots. I'm only sorry that I have a mere single fav to give you.
February 27th, 2018
@jerome @Weezilou What a fantastic idea.
February 27th, 2018
Jerome... National Geographic! Your work is every bit as good as any of them!
February 27th, 2018
Excellent work in stitching the shots. I’m amazed by the amount of detail and your final processing. Very inspiring!
February 27th, 2018
Amazing scenery :)
February 27th, 2018
February 27th, 2018
@milaniet Thanks for your nice comment! You're right - you have to be careful when climbing, but also when taking photos. I know someone who took a step backwards on the mountain in order to bring the motif into the picture better. He crashed.
February 27th, 2018
@casablanca Danke für Deinen netten comment! Es freut mich sehr, wenn in den Bildern die Schönheit der Berge, ihre Kraft und auch ihr Zauber spürbar werden.
February 27th, 2018
@Weezilou National Geographic... I confess, I have not dealt with the possibilities yet. You mean participation in the annual photo contests?
February 27th, 2018
February 27th, 2018
Like how the rocks tower on either side, framing the view
February 27th, 2018
I love the colors and how the framing draws you back to the horizon. Beautiful. I can only imagine the adventure that provides such stunning photo opportunities.
February 27th, 2018
@jerome The contests would be a very good place to make yourself known, but I buy so many of their beautiful books, and my sincere feeling is that you should find how to be in touch with the publisher of National Geographic books! It's a perfect company to showcase your work! The worst that can happen is that they don't take your work, but if you ignore the possibility, you may miss a wonderful opportunity! I've seen nothing any better than what you are already doing!
February 27th, 2018
Fantastically framed and capture...Fav
February 27th, 2018
@Weezilou Thank you, Louise, for the information! I always critically examine my products. Of course, NG has a special standard. They do not take everything. But maybe I'll try it. I'll see how I can make contact.
February 27th, 2018
@jerome Of course they have a special standard...and that's why, in my humble opinion, believe your work would qualify! I absolutely wouldn't say this to just anyone, but I know others here would agree with me that your work is arguably The Best!
February 27th, 2018
@Weezilou Thank you for your very friendly encouragement!
February 27th, 2018
@tonygig @katyc @helenm2016 Thank you for your nice comments!
To be in the mountains has a special meaning for me.
February 27th, 2018
What a huge challenge. You must feel such a sense of achievement to get to the top.
February 28th, 2018
@888rachel After the effort of ascension, you have a sense of liberation at the summit. It's an arriving - physically and mentally. I am pleased about the achieved, but especially about the beautiful gifts of the mountain.
February 28th, 2018
I agree with @Weezilou, your work is outstanding. Do give NG a go.
February 28th, 2018
@golftragic Thanks for lending your voice, too, Marnie!
February 28th, 2018
@Weezilou I'm happy to second that motion Louise. @jerome Jerome's photography is stellar.
February 28th, 2018
magnificent...as usual!!!
February 28th, 2018
@golftragic @Weezilou Thank you for your nice advice and encouragement! I'll give serious thought to this.
