Poor butterfly

A badly damaged Peacock butterfly in my tiny York garden. You might see the "fracture" line in the narrow part of the right wing. He's actively feeding - but for how much longer?

Great capture but sad to see

@bkbinthecity It's sad, but it's possible/likely that this butterfly hibernated over winter and is a very old pensioner...
Thank you

Funnily enough butterflies who have 'lived' to me are more attractive x

Poor butterfly.

@fbailey He certainly HAS lived. It's been tough, but butterflies/moths can still get around when they have lost an almost impossible amount of wing.

@homeschoolmom Sad, yes, but part of butterfly life, as it is for humans. We grow old and wrinkly, they lose scales and bits of wing.
Thanks very much

His life's work is done. Amazing he can keep feeding but a pity that he wants to!
