Brimstone eggs by jesika2

Brimstone eggs

a few of the approximately 42 eggs Mrs B laid today, April 22.
They are a very pale & delicate green at this stage and minute. After about 8 days they will change colour and on day 10, if all goes well, the equally minute larvae will hatch out.

Well jealous! I planted a buckthorn last year to try and grow my own but nothing has happened yet. Brilliant capture!

@janturnbull I saw Mrs B approach which gave me time to grab a camera. I can only suggest you search carefully for very very tiny eggs on the underside of the leaves. Good luck!

@susiemc @milaniet @koalagardens @pdulis they are indeed pretty eggs. They will change color become a dull pale brown an on May 2nd (fingers crossed) the pale brown caterpillars will emerge. I have yet to one hatch, always missing it by minutes. Thank you all

@rontu I also hope they survive, the tree is, I think, too small to support so many. Hopefully restrictions will have lifted so I can drive to the nearest other site. Can you imagine, “is your trip essential, madam?” “Yes, i’m going for caterpillar baby food!”

@oldjosh Thank you, Margaret. This time next week I should have the first of too many minute caterpillars.
