Saw this Vapourer caterpillar emerging today, one of the eggs laid on the 12th. As I mentioned before, it is highly unusual for eggs to hatch so quickly, normally Vapourers overwinter in egg phase.
Interestingly, some eggs which were laid away from the cocoon have shown no signs of hatching.
I'm pleased to say the tiny caterpillars appear to be feeding but have no idea if this will continue. It's a steep learning curve for them as well as for me!
