Snow Melt

It's mostly GONE! Yay!
Kim
My goodness, it looks odd not to see piles and piles of snow!

Looking forward to seeing what was underneath all that snow!

How long does the "no snow period" last? Looks so different without it.

@kimdavis @thistle @aglennc @sitiodown We start getting "real" snow in October. It's a very short summer season. But we make the most of the warm time with fishing, berries, hunting, camping, etc.

it sure does look different and sounds like you make the most of every summer moment

Fascinating seeing the landscape without snow, I can imagine that you make the most of every day in the summer. What is the average temp in the summer?

@cruiser @ukandie1 Andie, the July average is 59F & the January average is -8F. So yes, we do make the most of the good weather! However, along with all the green and "warmth" comes gigantic MOSQUITOES!!! I am leaving - just in time - for the lower '48 tomorrow and won't be back until mid July. I'll post pictures then of the lush green - and maybe even the mosquitoes! ;-) And it's Day 7, still no water.

@aglennc Anita, I'm the village of Shungnak, about 50 miles north of the Arctic Circle. :-)

@jetr Wow... You definitely do live "on top of the world". I really do enjoy your photos and narratives. Such a different lifestyle than the rest of us have any notion of........ Wonderful.
