In the summer, it is more cost-effective to have supplies of all kinds shipped up by barge. By October, the waterways have begun to freeze and all other shipments must be flown in at tremendous expense. This is one of the last barges our region will see this year.
@cruiser It does, Chris. We are literally cut off except by planes. And even in the summer, we are so remote, even in the big "metropolis," that open waters don't help much with transportation. We are entirely off the road system!
@tristansmum@kimdavis Yes, Kim! I learned that the hard way - can't just stop by the craft store on my way home from work to get supplies for tomorrow's class art project.
