For Dogwood Week 5 BW Landscape, this is part of what's left of the old village of Shungnak, along the river edge. There are still some inhabited homes along the river, as well as fish-drying racks. It's a busy place in the summer. The village has long been up on the ridge, where I am standing, safe from the flooding that comes every spring during "breakup" when the ice starts flowing.
black and white suits this landscape very well. Very interesting to see the life in the local village. Sounds much safer up on the ridge as I imagin there is a huge amount of water when the snow melts
@cruiser It's not so much the melting snow, it's the jam-up of ice blocks when the river starts moving again. The water can pass through the dams of ice. Thanks for your comments! @mona65 Thank you, Mona! @helly31 Yes, Helen, it IS bleak up here - that's why I struggle for inspiration - I'm so utterly surrounded by WHITE!! @francoise Yes, Francoise! Plenty of BW photo opportunities!! @vignouse It's been challenging, Richard, but quite an adventure. @taffy Yes - very stark...and COLD! @vera365 Thanks Vera. @tristansmum Thank you, Stephanie. :-)
