Caribou by jetr

Caribou

Encountered these antlers on a walk the other day. The caribou have begun to migrate through our valley and the subsistence hunting has begun in earnest. I can sometimes see the herd through the windows of my classroom.

Pardon my total ignorance of all things caribou, do they shed antlers as a matter of course?

@seattlite @moonmtn @wendyfrost @pdulis @milaniet Thank you all very much for your comments!
@golftragic Yes, Marnie, even those big, huge moose antlers are shed every year in winter. Elk, deer, reindeer, etc...all shed their antlers. Amazing, eh?!
