I have this Fuji which I seldom used('twas a b'day gift from my 3 sisters)- lots of people said and I read it too, that its a very good toy for street photography- totally agree with that but,my major problem is-I feel so shy, embarrassed & scared to see some "naughty middle fingers"pointing at me--- so basically this is my very first attempt on street photography.i almost spill my hot coffee cause I was shaking and nervous shooting up close this "HOLY"man reading his Bible at Dunkin's..(please God forgive me:)
-btw, love & High 5 to all the street photographers here on 365 wish I have ur guts:)
This is a very cool shot, though. I like the clean lines and the emphasis on the single individual. The other day I was shooting a fence (a fence, mind you) and an observer started yelling at me and asking why I was taking a picture of him. I told him several times I wasn't, but I think he was a bit unbalanced. Kind of a scary situation. So, I also salute all the street photographers out there!
;) I can relate a bit! Thought for sure the cops were gonna be after me for shooting those two kids a the parade the other day!!! Oh, I mean for taking their picture!!! HaHaHa! Great shot! I really like and I bet the guy would too!!! Fav
Yeah, it can be tough. I tend to shoot lots of buts for fear of getting shot, but some of the best shots are when I get busted. LOVE to see people's expressions and I haven't been flicked off or yelled at yet. Keep em coming!!!
this is awesome Joey-while you were nervous about taking the shot, many of us are just as hesitant and refrain from reading our Bibles in public to avoid the verbal middle fingers we so often encounter. Thank you for capturing and sharing this man's quiet commitment
Have no fear and use your telephoto? I just do it and sometimes they know it and I just pretend to be shooting something near them haha...I have received no middle fingers or threats.....like this guy....he has no idea! Great sneaky shot!
I have the same problem with street photography. I'm too afraid to ask strangers and shooting them without their permission feels like I'm invading their privacy. Made for a great candid pic, though!
You have expressed exactly what I feel too (and lots of others it seems). I only get people in shots when I'm taking a broader view, and also very nervous of doing it. This is great and you've caught him so well.
you know what I really love about your beach shots is how you preserve people's anonymity, i have been inspired by that and try to only post street shots that are unrecognisable, of course people dont know that! but I shoot from the hip :)
Congratulations on your first street photography! well done. You have bitten the bullet and from this point onward it will be easier.
You captured the moment perfectly. Great expression and mood.

Nice shot! It gets easier, the more you do it. I just pretend I'm shooting something over the person's shoulder, beside them, anywhere nearby, so they think I'm not interested in them.
Street photography is so intimidating! Some folks find it a walk in the park and for others (like us) it is extremely scary and so difficult. You did well here and have a great candid capture.
This is a great candid, caught his expression so well, grt b/w. I would love to do more people shots but tend to use telephoto as I find it difficult to be in peoples faces. Quite often it's an opportunist or quick shot which doesn't always make for the best focus. A smaller camera probably really helps.
Joey, I;m so pleased that you are taking some people shots. I know how scared I get when taking them, so a big well done to you for going outside your comfort zone! I hope you keep it up...
You captured the moment perfectly. Great expression and mood.
