The Australian wood ducks nest in hollows in trees. This is a photo of such a tree hollow on Balgowlah Golf Club course. The parents vacated the area when golfers were walking past. This was taken inside the tree hollow using my iPhone and flash.
When we moved on one of the parents was last seen going into the nest.
Quite a few eggs in there. Cool shot. By the way John, have you selected the finalists in the Sports Action challenge? Unless I missed it I haven’t seen them put up for a vote yet.
It's amazing that some birds survive. People build special houses for the wood ducks here. Nice look at the cozy nest. Seems one wants to escape its egg.
The hollow tree is actually in the middle of a golf course a few metres from a very large artificial pond or small lake. The nest has not been abandoned by the ducks and we saw them returning several times. The biggest threat to their future is snakes, water lizards or cats.

You’re right. One of them is trying to join the world.
Thanks. I’ll have to go back in a week or so and see the chicks???
Thanks.
I remembered then I forgot! I’m on to it today.
