Michael is the volunteer engineer in the (very hot) engine room of the heritage tug, Waratah in Sydney.
The Waratah is a coal fired steam driven tug built in 1902 in Sydney, NSW. It is the oldest tug in working condition in Australia. It was retired over six decades ago and in recent years has been maintained and operated on Sydney Harbour by volunteers from Transport Heritage NSW.
Wonderful photo of Michael, he’s a special person. My older brother worked in the engine room of a ship in WW2. He would have loved talking to Michael.
We never had Captain Kangaroo here in Australia. As far I recall. I only remember the song!!
I spoke to him until it got too hot for me! He had great stories.
It was about 34°c (93°f) outside. It mus have been another 10° to 2° in the engine room.
There are so great volunteers in organisations like this. Love it!
He very hot Diana. And a bit old I think!! 😀😀😀
Thanks for the much appreciated comments. Volunteers forever.
Thanks for the much appreciated comments. i Think I’ll send the photo to Michael via the heritage website.
